2018 World Peace Day theme “The Right to Peace – The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70” celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone document in the history of human rights drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.

Speaking on the theme, United Nation Secretary-General, António Guterres said “It is time all nations and all people live up to the words of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which recognizes the inherent dignity and equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human race, as this year marks the 70th anniversary of that landmark document.”

Galaxy4Peace has over the years been at the forefront of promoting United Nations Peace Day in Nigeria through her Sweat4Peace project which has brought together thousands of young people across the society including celebrities like Rugged Man, Brycee Bassey, Ogenekaro Itene, Bryan Okwara, Honourable Desmond Elliot, Shan George, Prof MC Abbey, MC Shaggi, Adunni Ade, Koffi Da Guru, Chuks Anyaduba, Ik Ogbonna, Koredo Bello, KPeace, and ItsPryce who has lend their voice in the call for global peace.

Addressing this year’s Sweat4Peace project, Galaxy4Peace Project Lead, Precious Ajunwa said “ human rights are everyone’s rights, and in the lead up to the International Day of Peace on 21 September, we join in calling everyone to take action to support SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by seeking peaceful resolution of conflict when disagreements arise around them. Lets collectively join our hands to be part of the solution by taking small steps – first to achieve inner peace, prevent any injustice happening around us, adopt a non-violent approach to problem solving and  take drastic steps to stop online bullying”

Speaking further on it, Ms Ajunwa said “we are excited to mark 2018 Sweat4Peace project bringing together concerned individuals to advocate for peace through a socially binding experience of physical exercises and interaction. This year Sweat4Peace will feature – dance aerobics, and games, with the primary objective of  getting people to live up to the words of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which recognizes the inherent dignity and equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human race. This year’s outlined activities will enlighten participants and the public on our collective efforts in promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, educate participants both offline and online, on available access to justice for all and demonstrate how building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels will facilitate justice and equal opportunity for everyone.”

Highlighting other line up events to mark this year’s Peace Day,  Mercy Obinali, Galaxy4Peace Community Outreach Lead noted that “not only will we observe this year’s peace day with Sweat4Peace, there will be ‘Teach Peace Early School Tour’ Sky Lightening’ and ‘Movie Screening’. Yet we will note that it would not be possible to build a peaceful world if steps are not taken to achieve economic and social development for all people everywhere, and ensure that their rights are protected, hence lets continually do our bit, and hope peace prevails by speaking up when others are at risk and stand with others’ human rights at work, in school and around the world.”

We call the general public to join the peace day movement lets Sweat4Peace together as we observe 2018 World Peace Day.
